🚀 About The Role
As VP of R&D, you’ll lead Newton Tech’s multidisciplinary development efforts across software, hardware, data, and medical systems. You’ll manage our in-house team and a network of subcontractors to deliver high-performance healthtech products. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll serve as a strategic thought partner and operational anchor — driving execution, setting technical direction, and ensuring on-time delivery across Newton’s platforms.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the R&D foundation of a high-impact startup redefining how movement is used to diagnose and treat disease.
💼 What You'll Do

Set the strategic direction for a connected product ecosystem and lead cross-functional execution to realize that vision

Lead Newton’s internal R&D team (hardware, software, AI/ML, data, computer vision, and algorithms)

Oversee technical direction and project execution across subcontractor partners

Own planning, prioritization, resource allocation, and timely delivery of all R&D initiatives

Set engineering processes, define goals, and hold teams accountable with clear milestones

Partner cross-functionally with product, clinical, marketing, and regulatory leads

Drive medical regulation, cyber security, and ISO 13485 compliance

Manage budgets, development grants (e.g. IIA/EU), and technical client engagements

Serve as a strategic voice on the executive team, influencing product vision and business direction
✅ What You Bring
Technical Leadership

Deep experience building and scaling platform-based (PaaS) products and the teams responsible for them

Strong understanding of complex medical device systems (software + hardware)

Background in big data platforms, computer vision, signal processing, and ML/AI

Familiar with cloud architecture, DevOps, frontend/backend integration, and human-machine interfaces

Hands-on knowledge of the medical product lifecycle: from R&D to V&V, and production

Proven experience ensuring quality, compliance, and technical excellence at scale

Strong project management and delivery focus — able to set clear timelines and ensure follow-through

Experience managing external vendors and development partners

🎓 Qualifications

BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (MSc preferred)

5+ years in a VP R&D or senior technical leadership role (healthtech/medtech preferred)

10+ years of experience in software development, systems engineering, and project management

Successful track record leading development of complex, regulated medical or deep-tech products

Fluent in English (written and verbal); strong presenter and communicator
